Is it really shot on film?
Yes! Real Super 8 cartridges in a real vintage Super 8 camera, developed and scanned at a specialty film lab. No digital filters pretending to be film. The grain, the flicker and the light leaks are all the real thing.
How much footage fits on one roll?
Each 50-foot cartridge holds about 2.5 to 3 minutes of footage, depending on the frame rate. At 24 frames per second you get natural, real-time motion and about 2.5 minutes; at 18 frames per second you get that dreamy, classic home-movie feel and a little closer to 3 minutes. That's it. No delete button, no second take.
Why is Super 8 such a splurge?
Because every second is physical film. A single roll costs $45–55. Then it has to be developed and scanned at a specialty lab, which runs $100–200 per roll depending on the lab and the level of processing (HD vs 2K vs 4K scans), not including shipping. Then every clip is color graded and hand-edited into your film. Put together, real Super 8 costs roughly a dollar or more for every second you see on screen. That's why it feels so precious.
What happens to the film after my wedding?
Your rolls are carefully packed and shipped to a motion-picture film lab. There they're developed and scanned frame by frame into digital files. The scans come back flat and muted, so I color grade every clip to bring back the warmth, the skin tones and that golden Hawaiʻi light. Then I cut it all together and score it to music, so it plays like a little movie of your day.
How long until I get my film?
Longer than our 24-hour iPhone content, and worth it. Shipping, lab developing and scanning usually takes a few weeks on its own, before color grading and editing even begin. I'll give you your exact timeline when you book. Good things (and grain) take time.
Which film stocks do you use?
It depends on your light. Fine-grain daylight film for bright beach ceremonies, faster film for golden hour and receptions, and black-and-white if you want something timeless and moody. We'll pick together based on your venue and timeline.
Does it work at night or indoors?
Super 8 loves light, so it truly shines outside, at golden hour, under string lights and around fire. Dark dance floors get extra grainy and dreamy (which many couples love). For the darkest parts of your night, pairing Super 8 with content creation means nothing gets missed.
Does it have sound?
Super 8 is a silent format, which is part of the magic. Your film is scored to music, and if you want vows or speeches woven in, we can layer in audio captured separately.
Can I add it to content or photography?
Absolutely, and we recommend it: next-day reels, heirloom photos and a film you'll show your grandkids. The ultimate combo of instant, timeless and nostalgic.
