BEHIND
the LENS

i'm ruchi – the heart behind the bts dulhan.

Alright, grab a cup of tea and settle in for the story of Ruchi.

Growing up in India, I was surrounded by the most epic weddings. Seriously, think grand, colorful, and sacred. But here's the kicker—despite my creative spirit burning like a fireworks display, I was told the only way to succeed was to become a computer engineer. So... I did what any obedient, middle-class Indian kid would do: I became a tech wizard.

Alright, grab a drink (coconut water, if you're feeling tropical), and let’s dive into Ruchi’s story.

I grew up in India surrounded by epic weddings—think Bollywood meets royalty—but despite my creative spark, society had other plans: I was going to be a computer engineer. So, I did just that, even getting a master’s in computer science (because who wouldn’t want to debug code instead of photographing love, right?).

Fast forward, I land jobs at Apple and Facebook, living the “dream,” until one day I’m hiking the Salkantay Trail in 2019. After a quiet dinner, I sat under the stars, and—cue dramatic music—I heard a voice: “Ruchi, if not now, when?” Cue tears, epiphany, and a whole new path. It took 3 more years to convince myself and my parents, but in 2023, I finally quit tech, moved to Hawaii, and never looked back.

Now, I photograph weddings every day—a dream I didn’t know I could have. Through The BTS Dulhan, I capture weddings in a way that feels effortless, soulful, and full of love (with a little laughter and maybe some happy tears).

So yeah, here I am, living my best life. Thanks, universe. And Machu Picchu. 🙌

And yes, I even earned a master's in computer science (because who wouldn’t want to debug code instead of... taking photos, right?).

Fast forward, I land jobs at Apple and Facebook, living the dream—or so I thought. But every day, there was a little voice whispering, “What if you were following your soul's calling instead of writing code?" And let me tell you, 15 years ago, in the heart of middle-class India, photography wasn’t exactly on the list of “career options.”

Then came November 2019—this is where things get a little spiritual. I was solo backpacking the Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu, totally in my element. On day 3 of the 5-day hike, after dinner, the rest of the crew retired to their tents, and I sat under the dimly lit stars with faint music in the background. Lost in the peaceful silence, I suddenly heard a voice. It wasn’t an echo. It wasn’t a hallucination (promise)—it was clear as day: “Ruchi, you wanted to follow your dreams. If not now, when?” And just like that, I was crying in the middle of the Andes. I knew it was a sign. But here’s the catch: it wasn’t an overnight switch. It took me another 3 years to undo my whole belief system, to convince my parents, and to feel safe to make that leap.

Fast forward to November 2023, and I finally did it (cue the dramatic music). I quit my tech job, packed up my life, and moved to Hawaii. The rest, as they say, is history. I went from coding to capturing moments—and let me tell you, it feels like finally breathing after holding my breath for years.

Now, every day, I get to do what I’ve always dreamed of—photographing love stories and creating content for weddings. It's like telling 1000 stories at once, with a camera in hand and a heart full of gratitude. If I could go back and tell 17-year-old me, “Hey, photography can totally be your life,” I’d get a very confused look, but hey—mission accomplished!

Through The BTS Dulhan, I bring my tech-savvy storytelling skills and creative background to weddings, capturing them in a way that feels effortless, soulful, and so very real. Because to me, weddings aren't just events. They're living, breathing poetry in motion, full of love, laughter, and all those moments we want to relive forever.

So yeah, here I am, living the dream I didn't even know I was allowed to have. And I couldn’t be more thankful.

Meet Sarah

Born and raised on the Big Island of Hawai‘i, Sarah has been living and breathing weddings for as long as she can remember. She started out as a florist’s assistant (aka making sure those bouquets were absolute perfection), then jumped into the world of wedding planning before finding her true love—capturing all the behind-the-scenes magic as a content creator.

Sarah has worked more weddings than we have fingers and toes to count, so trust us when we say—she’s seen it all. Need help fluffing your dress? She’s on it. Hair out of place? She’s got the touch. Feeling overwhelmed? She’ll be your calm in the storm. And of course, she’ll be right there, phone in hand, making sure every candid, dreamy, and joy-filled moment is beautifully captured.

While Sarah works her magic behind the lens, all the final edits are personally handled by Ruchi—so you get the best of both worlds! With Sarah on your wedding team, you’re in the best hands (and yes, she’s probably fixing your veil right now). 💕
